South Africa is not realy a country to find motorcycle racers in the 70ties and 80ties.But Alan North did realy put South Africa on the map.

North drove his first official race in 1969 in South Africa on a 50cc machine. In the year 1975, North and his girlfriend came to Holland afther Henry ten Dam asked him to, and to go ride for his firm "Wilddam".

Afther he came to Holland, North raced 250,350,500cc and formel 750 with several successes.

His first Grand Prix was the same year (1975) at the TT-Assen where he came out at the 250 and 350cc class. Between 1975 and 1980 he toke part at almoste all GP`s with the GrandPrix of Imola Itali of 1977 as his greatest highlight. When he became winner of the 350cc class.

Alan merried his girlfriend Karen Ekerold ( sister of the wel known motorcycle racer Jon Ekerold). together they get two children.
